1 Chronicles 26:26 "This Shelomoth and his brethren were in charge of all the treasuries of the dedicated gifts which David the king, and the heads of the fathers’ houses, and the officers of the thousands and the hundreds, and the commanders of the army, had dedicated."
This charge of the dedicated gifts was a sub-position under the chief officer in charge of the treasuries, Shebuel, Moses' grandson (1 Chronicles 26:24). Further, Shelomoth and his brothers were the great-grandsons of Moses, through Moses' son Eliezer (1 Chronicles 26:25).
It's hard to imagine how rich Israel had become in just a few generations. They were led out of Egypt from slavery by Moses, having nothing but the few possessions they could carry with them. They spent forty years in the desert, often complaining about the only steady food supply, the mannah from heaven. Now, though, they need a separate office under the Treasury to handle just the gifts of dedication, which not only included all mentioned in the verse, but "[a]lso all that Samuel the seer, and Saul the son of Kish, and Abner the son of Ner, and Joab the son of Zeruiah had dedicated [from the spoils of war]—all dedicated gifts were in the care of Shelomoth and his brethren." 1 Chronicles 26:27-28.
This shows the way God's gifts grow exponentially. He lavishes His blessings on us when we are following Him. I have seen myself how things can go from "just getting by" to abundance in no time at all, not just financially, but in every possible way. So when I'm in the desert, complaining about the mannah, and wondering where the greater blessings are, I will remember that Moses' grandson was in charge of a treasury so vast he had to appoint several of Moses' great-grandsons to oversee just the gifts of dedication. A great reminder that when the blessings come, they grow quickly and are well worth the wait!
