Sirach 41:12 "Have regard for your name, since it will remain for you longer than a thousand great stores of gold."
We don't have any say in our names, they are chosen for us, but our names become how we are known to the world. Nonetheless, the reputation attached to them is all on us. So when I when I read this I thought "When people hear my name, what do they think?" (Other than being confused by my typical use of my middle name, which was also decided for me by my parents!)
I've always had an aversion to being well known, I don't like attention being focused on me. So I suppose I assumed, and maybe even hoped, that people (other than my family and close friends) just kind of forget about me when I'm not around. But God doesn't want us to be forgotten, He wants the part of Him that is in us to shine through to others. So I hope when people hear my name they think of someone who is at least trying to be holy, and that they feel His love through me. That would certainly be better than stores of gold!
